1. Flipgrid-Flipgrid had some recent updates! Two of my favorites are adjusting the playback speed when watching student videos and sorting submissions by student names! Check out all of the updates here!
2. Offline Mode-If you happen to be traveling with questionable WiFi and you have some work to do, try offline mode in any of the Google products. This mode allows you to view and edit any of your Google files without being connected to the internet! The directions are attached below. 3. Fonts in Google-If you're like me and you enjoy a good font, have you checked out all of the font options that Google has to offer? If not, head to the "More Fonts" option in a doc, slide, sheet, etc. to customize your font list. You can add and subtract the fonts that appear on your menu.

1. Mojave & iPad OS 13 Features-With the updates to your laptops and iPads come new features! Here is a quick presentation that I made to highlight some of my favorites. A reminder that students will be able to update their iPads on Friday and should do so at home. 2. Grading Periods in Schoology-With the changes before the break please make sure that you are choosing Trimester 2 and not Quarter 2 (if you have a trimester class) when creating assignments and assessments. I am working with Schoology to see if we can make the correct quarter or trimester the default terms. I’ll keep you posted! 3. Sharing Google Slides in Present Mode-You may have noticed that one of the ways the 12 Days of Visible Learning was shared was in the presentation mode. This mode is a great way to share interactive slides with your class because it encourages clicking on links to navigate around instead of clicking through the thumbnails on the side. To get the correct share link, make sure that you have updated the share settings to match your activity. Then delete the end of the URL, starting at "Edit." Once you have deleted the end of the URL, add "present."
1. Student iPad Updates-There has been a change to my tech tips from last week. Students will be allowed to update their iPads starting after school on Dec. 6th. Here are the directions that students will follow to complete their updates at home. I will make an announcement to Schoology on that day.
2. Screen Time-As mentioned last week, parents now have access to Screen Time for their child's school device. Here is the handout about Screen Time that is provided to parents in the conference technology packets that I provided. 3. Screen Recording with Mojave-Now that you have Mojave (please update if you haven't already!), here is the first of many handy features! You can now screen record, with or without sound, directly on your laptop. This feature is very similar to screen recording on your iPad. Here is an article that details the different features and shows how to use them! 1. Google Calendar-You may have noticed recently that some guests on a Google Calendar invite show a moon icon that says "outside of working hours." While this has always been a setting that you can add, Google recently made it a default setting based on when you typically have meetings. To change this setting, click on the gear symbol in the top right-hand corner, click on "settings," and then click on "working hours." From here you can either adjust the times or you can turn it off altogether. If you'd like to know more, here is Google's help page. Thank you to Jodi for noticing this change! 2. Edpuzzle Notes-A fellow teacher on Twitter posted that they use the notes feature on Edpuzzle to help students as they take notes while watching a video. I loved this idea as a way to support students who may struggle to take independent notes.
3. Amazon Smile-This tech tip comes from our PTO! If you are a frequent Amazon shopper, then check out Amazon Smile! Amazon Smile will allocate .5% of eligible sales to the PTO every time you shop at no cost to you! Go to smile.amazon.com and enter D23 Elementary Parent Teacher Organization Prospect Heights IL. 1. New Spheros-We received a new set of 12 Spheros, bringing our total to 24 Spheros and 12 Ollies! These devices are available for coding activities, class rewards, Advisory units, vocab practice, and more! Reach out if you are interested in using them! 2. View Tabs in Sheets-If you want to switch to a specific tab on Google Sheets, but don't want to hit the arrows 80 times, click on the 4 bars in the bottom left-hand corner. This will open a list of the tabs and from here you can click on the one you would like to go to. 3. Schoology Champions Program-If you're interested in learning more about Schoology, features, upcoming tools, and joining an online community of like-minded teachers, then check out the Schoology Champions Program. It is free to join and you earn prizes for completing challenges that are directed towards deepening your understanding of the platform and interacting with other teachers. Through a version of this program (I am a member of the Schoology Ambassador Program), I have earned a shirt, socks, and lanyard! It's also one of my sources to gather these wonderful tech tips!
