1. Google Form Default Settings-You can now set default settings for your Google Forms. These settings will be applied to all new forms and can be changed as needed. For example, I collect email addresses with most of my forms (unless they are anonymous surveys), so it makes sense to set 'collect email addresses' as my default and change it when I want to. To change these settings, open a form, go to the three dots in the top right-hand corner and click 'Preferences.' 2. Comment on PDFs in Google Drive-Google Drive has just released the ability to add comments to non-Google documents like PDFs and photos. To do this, open the document in Drive and click on the comment icon in the top right-hand corner. 3. More Efficient Grading in Schoology-After reviewing student work and deciding on which feedback to provide, there is a faster way of inputting grades and comments than going one by one. If you click on the 'Edit Grades' icon within an assignment, it will take you to a screen that has all of the students listed with their scores and comments available for editing. I personally prefer having this screen open on my laptop and have the student submissions open on my iPad.

1. Testing Preparation-With PARCC and MAP right around the corner, I would encourage all teachers to take their Advisory kids through an iPad Spa Treatment and to have all students update their iPads (11.2.6) ahead of time. I would also encourage all teachers to go through Chris' super helpful PARCC Guide, make sure that you can log in, and refamiliarize yourself with the site before testing begins.
2. ICE Conference Resources-Even if you weren't able to attend ICE this year, take a look at the resources that presenters upload! These presentations are full of ideas and resources! At the top of the screen are tabs for each day's resources. Presenters will continue to upload resources throughout the week, so make sure to check back in! 3. Summary Practice-One of the presenters had a session titled, Bell Ringers, Summaries, and Exit Slips. Although I didn't attend this session, I really liked flipping through the presentation for tools and ideas! Here is a quick and easy form that focuses on practicing writing concise summaries or taking information and synthesizing it into your own thoughts. 1. Schoology Landing Page-You can set the default page that comes up when you click on your different courses to either Materials or Updates. This could be useful if you have a course that you really only utilize for Updates. Follow these directions to customize Schoology to fit your needs. 2. GoogleForms-Big shout-out to 6th grade who showed me that GoogleForms now allows you to create quizzes! 6th grade had their students create review quizzes and then shared them with the class. What a great way for the kids to review, both in making the quizzes and taking the quizzes that their friends made. Here is the Forms-Quizzes homepage that gives you many different template layouts and here is a helpful video to get started. 3. Lost iPads-If a student finds or brings you an iPad, please have them drop it off in my office instead of holding onto it. We no longer have the ability to make the iPads emit a noise when lost, so finding them have gotten quite a bit trickier. It will be easiest if all lost/found iPads make their way to one place. Thank you in advanced! |
