1. 12 Day Twitter Challenge-As promised, here is our 12 Day Twitter Challenge! We begin tomorrow and the first 3 days have choices to accommodate those of you who are beginning Twitter users. I challenge you to post every day using the hashtag #12daystwitter and tagging @D23MacArthur. If you have any questions, please reach out! 2. Reflector Teacher-A big thank you to Sam and Yianni who spent last Friday updating Reflector on our laptops! If you did not have a chance to get yours updated or you are experiencing issues, please put in a tech ticket. There are also a few settings in Reflector Teacher that I'd like to point out. To find your settings, click on the gear symbol and then choose 'Preferences.' You can change the name of your computer (broadcast name) in the box below. You can also change how your iPad connects and what it looks like. I prefer my iPad to fill the screen so that the whole class can see what I'm doing. I also use a background color instead of my desktop in case I have notes or windows open that I don't want to share with the class. Lastly, I prefer to use an Onscreen Code so that a student cannot accidentally connect to my computer. 3. Chrome Tabs-If you're like me and have a billion (roughly) tabs open all of the time, take a look at these shortcuts to make your life easier!

1. Google Slides & Your WebCam-Alice Keeler is one of the top Google Educators out there. I love following her on Twitter (@alicekeeler) because she posts such wonderful ideas! Recently, she tweeted about incorporating a webcam recording directly into a Google Slide using her Chrome Extension. This could be used in a bunch of different ways! You could put project guidelines into Slides and add yourself elaborating or use it to give directions when you have a substitute in your classroom.
2. TweetDeck-I've mentioned this program before, but I feel that it's worth mentioning again! TweetDeck is an extremely useful website that helps organize your Twitter feed so that you don't miss what's most important to you! Check out this tutorial to get started! 3. Grammarly-Grammarly is a Chrome extension that checks your grammar and spelling in open response formats. It works with any website that you type in! In the case it does not work well with a website (thank you Kim Salyards for finding that it does not play nice with Kahoot), you can turn it off for that particular website. Just click on the Grammarly icon in your Chrome Extensions bar and turn it off for the website you are using. 1. Socrative-Socrative is an assessment tool that can be extremely helpful for the classroom! It has a very clear and clean dashboard, which makes it easy to use! My two favorite parts on this site are the results table and the exit tickets. The results table shows you your class list and the questions with the student answers. What's nice is that it color codes their answers in green or red depending on if they got that question correct. This makes looking at the class' understanding of one concept a breeze! I also like the exit ticket feature. This is a pre-made ticket that the kids fill out that asks how they felt about the lesson, one thing they learned, and a spot to answer a teacher question. That's a quick and easy way to see how the lesson went and if there are any concepts you need to reteach. If this is something you are interested in using, let me know! I'd love to help you set it up!
2. Projectors-Our projectors are probably on of the most valuable tools that we have in our classrooms! To ensure that the projectors and their bulbs last for as long as possible, please be mindful about turning them off when not in use, especially when you leave your classroom. Thank you in advanced!! 3. TweetDeck-Maria showed me this site to get me into the Twitter world. This site allows you to customize a dashboard to only show the information from Twitter that you care about. For example, I have set my dashboard to always show me the newest tweets with #MAC_pride and #12daystwitter, this way I don't miss a single tweet! Tweetdeck does way more than this, like allowing you to schedule tweets, but those features will be for another day. Here is the site and here is a helpful tutorial! 1. Shortcut-Trying to find a specific document, but don't remember what you named it? Use the space bar to do a quick look of your documents! When in a folder, click on a document and tap the space bar once. A preview of that document will appear. Use your arrow keys to quickly flip through your documents. Once you find the right one, double click anywhere on the preview to open it! This is a much faster alternative to opening up several documents!
2. New Mac Tech Website-You may remember that Aliaa had created a website for Mac last year. I 'borrowed' lots of her materials and added some of my own. I'm hoping that this will be a good place for all things Mac + Tech! You will also find all of our Tech Tips in chronological order. Here is the link. 3. Twitter Challenge-It is NOT too late to join our 12 Days of Twitter Challenge! This is a challenge built for both new and experienced Twitter users. I'm having a blast doing it and hope that you will join! Big shoutout to Shelly Kutcher, who is getting her Advisory kids involved in the process! They are excited about each of the prompts and have helped plan tweets and pictures to post! |
