1. Suggestion Mode-Yesterday we talked about ways for students to give and receive peer feedback and one great and easy way to do this is with "Suggestion Mode" on Google Docs. All a student has to do is share their document as Comment Only with a peer. Then, the peer can make edits that appear in a different color and as an auto-generated comment. The author can then decide to accept or decline the suggestion that their peer made. 2. FlipGrid-Our FlipGrid videos from our BrightBytes Presentation turned out great! Check them out here. Thank you so much for creating such great videos. I really enjoyed watching them last night! I can't wait to see the impacts that improved feedback will have in our classrooms!
3. Updates-Please make sure that your Advisory students and yourself have updated to the most recent iOS. We have 170 students who are currently at 11.1 or below (we should be on 11.2.2). These students will experience issues with the internet, Schoology, Gmail, their battery, and other apps. Additionally, if a student is having any issues in your class, please check that they are updated before sending them down to my office. Thank you in advance for helping get our kids updated!

1. iOS 11 Screen Recording-The new iOS11 has a new screen recording feature for your iPad or iPhone. This means that you can record short directions with or without audio for your students. Here are the instructions for the recording process. When you are done recording, it will save your video to your camera roll. I then recommend uploading the video directly to Schoology on your iPad. I have found that when sending the video to your computer and trying to upload it that way, you lose the audio. If you are interested in sending your screen recordings to your laptop, let me know and I can walk you through those steps!
2. Study Island-All grade levels met with Daryl today to go over best practices for Study Island in our classes. I was able to sit in on the 8th Grade meeting and we decided on a few action items that will probably apply to you too! First, set up your classes and add your students for this year. Please include the period number, class, and your last name in the class name. Delete any unused classes from last year. Next, choose a skill that matches what you are working on in class and create and assign an assignment. After your students have completed the assignment, review the data to inform your instruction. Then rinse and repeat! Let me know if you have any questions or if your team (or just you!) would like to schedule a webinar with Daryl. 3. Passwords-It's always a good idea to revisit our password practices! Check out this Adobe Spark from last year that I'm still quite proud of! It's important that we keep both our personal information and our students' information safe! 1. Keynote Live-Many people have liked Nearpod, but have disliked the limits the free version has. Keynote Live can be a replacement program! Keynote Live allows you to lead your class through a slide presentation. The one downfall is that it is not interactive yet, in that the audience cannot send answers back to the teacher. What you can do, however, is you can embed a link to a Go Formative (which has all of the best features like multiple choice, short answer, show your work, etc.) that the kids can click on. Watch this video to find out how it works and feel free to reach out to me with questions!
2. iOS 11 Tour-To help get to know iOS11, Alison Mahoney, the lovely TIS at Ross/Sullivan, put together this presentation. Feel free to use it with your students or for yourself! 3. Book Creator-Book creator can be used for more than just books! For this photo, I found the background on Google, added the Schoology logo to it in Pages, saved the image and sent it to Green Screen. Then I took my photo with my background and sent it to Book Creator. I chose the Comic template in Book Creator and added the frame, title, and speech bubble! If you have an idea but aren't sure how to go about creating it, let me know! |
