1. IDEAcon Resources-As presentations are given at IDEAcon they are added to this Symbaloo. Check back over the next week to look at and steal resources!
2. MyLearningPlan Settings-You can turn on email notifications for upcoming events in MyLearningPlan. Go to the Professional Growth section of the site > My Info > My User Profile. From here, you can turn on many different notifications, but the most helpful may be "Upcoming Activities Reminder."

1. Advisory-We have a couple of additional items to tidy up on the device management end, so today and Thursday we will be setting a few iPads to Lost Mode during Advisory. Please send any students that have a Lost Mode screen down to the library. We just have to get some information from their device and put it into our management system. We anticipate this being around 10-15 students. Please let me know if you have any questions. 2. Translate Google Docs-Yet another reason to make Google Docs one of your favorite apps! Google Docs has a translation feature built in! Go to Tools > Translate > Select the Language. Once you have selected the language you would like to be used, Google Docs will create a new document with that language. 3. Command + Shift + V-You may already be familiar with the shortcut Command + V to paste copied items, but something really awesome happens when you add Shift to that shortcut. By using the shortcut Command + Shift + V, whatever you have copied will be pasted in the format that matches the rest of the document! This saves you the time needed to change the font, size, and color to match your document after you paste text into it. Here is a video to show you how it works! 1. Student iPad Updates-There has been a change to my tech tips from last week. Students will be allowed to update their iPads starting after school on Dec. 6th. Here are the directions that students will follow to complete their updates at home. I will make an announcement to Schoology on that day.
2. Screen Time-As mentioned last week, parents now have access to Screen Time for their child's school device. Here is the handout about Screen Time that is provided to parents in the conference technology packets that I provided. 3. Screen Recording with Mojave-Now that you have Mojave (please update if you haven't already!), here is the first of many handy features! You can now screen record, with or without sound, directly on your laptop. This feature is very similar to screen recording on your iPad. Here is an article that details the different features and shows how to use them! 1. Schoology Notepad-Schoology released another new feature this summer that allows students to use a notepad in their assessments. This notepad gives the students space to draft out thoughts, lists, etc. while taking a test. Use this help guide to learn more! 2. Gmail-I found out on accident the other day that you can drag and drop emails in Gmail! I thought it was a pretty neat find! 3. iPadOS, Catalina, & iOS13-Apple will be releasing the newest operating system updates for iPhones, Macs, and iPads soon. iOS13 for iPhones will be released on Thursday (9/19), iPadOS for iPads will be released on 9/30, and Catalina for Macs will be released in October. We ask that you do not update your iPad or Mac at this time. Please also talk to your students and let them know that we are not updating the iPadOS yet. I will put an announcement on Schoology closer to the release date to remind them as well.
1. Apple Clips-Apple Clips is part of the Apple Suite and may not be an app that you have explored before! It is a video production tool that allows students to make easy, quick, and professional videos. Students can easily record in the app, import videos or pictures, add well-designed posters, add music and live titles (so great!). Here's a brief tutorial of the app, although in my experience, it's best if you just try it out yourself! Here's a little video I compiled today using my photos and videos from one our 6th grade coding activities!
Bonus: For any iPhone X or iPhone XR users, Apple Clips offers scenes (think green screen, without the green) in selfie mode. There are some fun scenes, including some Disney ones, that could be fun for yourself or kids! 2. Chrome URL Search Bar-Chrome has also released more advanced search features within the URL Search Bar. You hopefully already knew that you could search for a recently opened document by typing in the title (Tech Tip #3), but now the search will expand to your Gmail and even Twitter! When searching for Amy Zaher, I got the following results. So neat! |
