1. Google Calendar-Google will be pushing out the new version of Calendar on Feb. 28th. You have the option to switch over before then by click on the Gear symbol in the top right-hand corner and clicking 'Use New Calendar.' It has a lot of really neat settings and better visual options. Check out this article for more info! 2. Schoology Quick Access-You may have already noticed, but Schoology has added a quick access to your folders from the main course page. If you click on the arrow next to 'Materials' on the left-hand side of the page, you will get a quick access list of your folders. 3. Manage Storage-With your newest iOS update, there is a handy feature that can help you maximize your storage on your laptop! Go to the black apple in the top left-hand corner and click 'About This Mac.' Click the 'Storage' tab and then 'Manage.' It will automatically place you on the Recommendations page. This page is extremely helpful in identifying files that take up the most amount of space on your computer! Extra: NICE Mini-Con is on Saturday, January, 27th from 8:30am-1:00pm at Evanston Township High School. Here is the schedule for the event and the cost is $5 at the door. I'll be there and I hope to see you as well!

1. Sub Drive-Our subs had an opportunity to come to an optional training on our Sub Laptops and Sub Google Drive. Feel free to use Google Drive to store your plans and resources from here on out. All you need to do is create a folder titled 'Last Name' Sub Plans and share it with [email protected]. Then email me to let me know so I can add it to their drive. From here, you can add or delete any relevant sub plans or resources.
If you choose to do this, please make sure that you leave your sub a note indicating where they can find your plans and reference the SubHandbook (also located with the laptops) for login information and how-tos. 2. PowerTeacher Pro Adding & Editing Categories-With our switch to PowerTeacher Pro, we have the opportunity to look back at our categories and make sure that we have everything set up correctly! Take a look at this video to learn how to change category colors, edit category order, set assignment defaults, etc. One particularly neat feature is using categories to track practice and non-graded activities. I hope you check it out! 3. NICE Mini-Con-On Saturday, January, 27th from 8:30am-1:00pm at Evanston Township High School NICE will be hosting its annual Mini-Conference. Here is the schedule for the event and the cost is $5 at the door. I'll be there and I hope to see you as well! 1. Suggestion Mode-Yesterday we talked about ways for students to give and receive peer feedback and one great and easy way to do this is with "Suggestion Mode" on Google Docs. All a student has to do is share their document as Comment Only with a peer. Then, the peer can make edits that appear in a different color and as an auto-generated comment. The author can then decide to accept or decline the suggestion that their peer made. 2. FlipGrid-Our FlipGrid videos from our BrightBytes Presentation turned out great! Check them out here. Thank you so much for creating such great videos. I really enjoyed watching them last night! I can't wait to see the impacts that improved feedback will have in our classrooms!
3. Updates-Please make sure that your Advisory students and yourself have updated to the most recent iOS. We have 170 students who are currently at 11.1 or below (we should be on 11.2.2). These students will experience issues with the internet, Schoology, Gmail, their battery, and other apps. Additionally, if a student is having any issues in your class, please check that they are updated before sending them down to my office. Thank you in advance for helping get our kids updated! |
