1. Shortcut-Trying to find a specific document, but don't remember what you named it? Use the space bar to do a quick look of your documents! When in a folder, click on a document and tap the space bar once. A preview of that document will appear. Use your arrow keys to quickly flip through your documents. Once you find the right one, double click anywhere on the preview to open it! This is a much faster alternative to opening up several documents!
2. New Mac Tech Website-You may remember that Aliaa had created a website for Mac last year. I 'borrowed' lots of her materials and added some of my own. I'm hoping that this will be a good place for all things Mac + Tech! You will also find all of our Tech Tips in chronological order. Here is the link. 3. Twitter Challenge-It is NOT too late to join our 12 Days of Twitter Challenge! This is a challenge built for both new and experienced Twitter users. I'm having a blast doing it and hope that you will join! Big shoutout to Shelly Kutcher, who is getting her Advisory kids involved in the process! They are excited about each of the prompts and have helped plan tweets and pictures to post!

1. Spam Folder-This is located under 'More' on the left-hand side of your Gmail. You should check this folder weekly in case parent emails have been filtered into it. If you find an email that should not be spam, check it's checkbox and click 'Not Spam.' This will move those emails into your inbox (they will not show up at the top of your inbox, but instead in chronological order). This will help Gmail learn what is and what is not spam. To stay organized, go ahead and delete any spam messages that are in that folder. 2. Explain Everything Collaboration-Our 8th grade Social Studies team has been working on a wonderful project with their students. The students created a presentation (GoogleSlides, Keynote, etc.) and then voice recorded over it (Explain Everything). We found that the students could record on their own iPads in Explain Everything and then upload the project file to a shared group GoogleDrive folder. Then one student could download those projects into Explain Everything and merge the pieces together into one final project. This was a great way for students to work independently and collaboratively at the same time! 3. Desktop Organization-Now that many of you have tackled the looming task of desktop organization, I'd like to introduce you to one of my favorite organization tricks. Every month, I create a new background image that is not only festive but includes spaces for my files (screenshot attached). This helps me keep my desktop clean and organized. I like to customize and change mine every month because I enjoy making my own, but I know that is not everyone's cup of tea! I've included two generic organizers that I found online in case this is something you are interested in trying. Here is a helpful guide for changing your desktop picture. If you want to find your own, try searching Google with the keywords 'organization desktop' and keep in mind that bigger picture sizes are better for your desktop. If you want to learn how to make your own, come find me! Aqua and yellow wallpapers from Moritz Fine Designs
1. Schoology Landing Page-You can set the default page that comes up when you click on your different courses to either Materials or Updates. This could be useful if you have a course that you really only utilize for Updates. Follow these directions to customize Schoology to fit your needs. 2. GoogleForms-Big shout-out to 6th grade who showed me that GoogleForms now allows you to create quizzes! 6th grade had their students create review quizzes and then shared them with the class. What a great way for the kids to review, both in making the quizzes and taking the quizzes that their friends made. Here is the Forms-Quizzes homepage that gives you many different template layouts and here is a helpful video to get started. 3. Lost iPads-If a student finds or brings you an iPad, please have them drop it off in my office instead of holding onto it. We no longer have the ability to make the iPads emit a noise when lost, so finding them have gotten quite a bit trickier. It will be easiest if all lost/found iPads make their way to one place. Thank you in advanced! |
