1. FlipGrid-FlipGrid announced this summer that they would be opening up their entire platform for free to all users! This is great news as it now allows us to use previously 'premium' features! Check out this updates page to learn more. Some of my favorites are GridPals and teacher vibes! They also put together an educator eBook to help you get started and learn about everything this platform has to offer! I attached it below.
2. Book Creator-Book Creator also had some updates over the summer! The biggest change is that you can now embed all sorts of media into a book. FlipGrids, Google Docs/Sheets/Slides, Explain Everything, you name it! Book Creator for Chrome was released last year and has continued to improve! The best feature of Book Creator for Chrome is that you can create a Library and have students upload their books for the rest of the class to view. You can create 1 Library and upload up to 40 books (you can also archive books to make room for new ones). This is perfect for sharing student work! 3. Rearrange Schoology Courses-Rearrange your Schoology courses so that they are in chronological order! Follow the steps below. 4. FastBridge & Apple Classroom-FastBridge testing starts next week! Get prepared by setting up your Apple Classrooms! Follow this tutorial (pages 2-5) to set up your class. If you need help, please contact me! 5. PowerSchool & Schoology-Reminder that it is my personal goal to get all Schoology gradebooks synced to PowerSchool! If you need help, please set up an appointment with me!

1. Schoology & PowerSchool-This year it is my goal to get every teacher's Schoology course connected to PowerTeacher Pro. To help with this process, I created a tutorial that takes you through setting up PowerSchool grading categories, as well as, syncing Schoology to PowerSchool. A big thank you to Shelly for allowing me to record her set up process! If you need any help, please do not hesitate to reach out! 2. EdPuzzle-Our filter Securly has updated and has closed all loopholes for getting to YouTube. This is good news as it keeps our kids safer, however, it does bring some unintended consequences. At this time, EdPuzzle does not work with our student iPads or sub laptops. If you are intending to share a video with students or subs, use SafeYouTube.net to generate a link that works. We apologize for the inconvenience and will let you know as soon as this becomes an option again! 3. Split Text to Columns-The beginning of the year is the time for rosters! You may find yourself in the situation where you have exported a list of student names, but their first and last names are grouped together in the same cell. This can be frustrating when you'd like to sort by last name. This trick can work for all sorts of text, not just names!
Here's how: Highlight column > Data > Split Text to Columns > Choose Space 1. PARCC Update-If a student gets kicked out of a test for any reason, go into your proctor menu and click on the status drop-down menu next to that child's name and choose 'Resume Upload.' Refresh the page and then click on that same drop-down and choose 'Resume.' Once you have done that, the student will be able to resume their test.
2. Schoology to PowerSchool-Amy Mailloux spent a lot of time last week working through an issue that she discovered with the new PowerTeacher Pro. She found that if you unpublish an assignment on Schoology, but then resync any grade changes to PowerSchool, it will then unpublish that assignment on PowerSchool as well. My recommendation is that you only unpublish assignments that you will no longer be accepting grades on or once the grading period has closed. Thanks, Amy! 3. Kahoot Name Generator-Sometimes our students can get a little carried away when generating their names for Kahoot games. Enable the Name Generator option to speed up the setup process, while still maintaining some fun. Check out this article to find out how! |
