1. Google Calendar-You may have noticed recently that some guests on a Google Calendar invite show a moon icon that says "outside of working hours." While this has always been a setting that you can add, Google recently made it a default setting based on when you typically have meetings. To change this setting, click on the gear symbol in the top right-hand corner, click on "settings," and then click on "working hours." From here you can either adjust the times or you can turn it off altogether. If you'd like to know more, here is Google's help page. Thank you to Jodi for noticing this change! 2. Edpuzzle Notes-A fellow teacher on Twitter posted that they use the notes feature on Edpuzzle to help students as they take notes while watching a video. I loved this idea as a way to support students who may struggle to take independent notes.

1. FlipgridAR-Flipgrid released a new feature this summer called FlipgridAR. FlipgridAR takes an ordinary method of sharing student responses via QR code to a new level through the use of Augmented Reality. Take a look at their release notes for a full tour of the feature and definitely check out the videos they've included to see what it looks like in action! 2. Google Shortcuts-Another update that Google released this summer was an improved landing page when you open a new tab in Chrome. Google has already created a few shortcut links based on how often you visit different sites, but you can remove (click on 3 dots on icon) or add (click on the plus sign) to customize the page to fit your needs. 3. Edpuzzle Live Mode-This tip comes to us from Kristen Bearwald! Edpuzzle released the Live Mode feature this summer. This mode allows you to project the video for your entire class to watch and then has the questions pop up on the student devices to answer. To learn how, take a look at their help guide!
1. Schoology & PowerSchool-This year it is my goal to get every teacher's Schoology course connected to PowerTeacher Pro. To help with this process, I created a tutorial that takes you through setting up PowerSchool grading categories, as well as, syncing Schoology to PowerSchool. A big thank you to Shelly for allowing me to record her set up process! If you need any help, please do not hesitate to reach out! 2. EdPuzzle-Our filter Securly has updated and has closed all loopholes for getting to YouTube. This is good news as it keeps our kids safer, however, it does bring some unintended consequences. At this time, EdPuzzle does not work with our student iPads or sub laptops. If you are intending to share a video with students or subs, use SafeYouTube.net to generate a link that works. We apologize for the inconvenience and will let you know as soon as this becomes an option again! 3. Split Text to Columns-The beginning of the year is the time for rosters! You may find yourself in the situation where you have exported a list of student names, but their first and last names are grouped together in the same cell. This can be frustrating when you'd like to sort by last name. This trick can work for all sorts of text, not just names!
Here's how: Highlight column > Data > Split Text to Columns > Choose Space 1. Study Island & Schoology-Now that we have gone through our Study Island training, we can start creating ways to integrate it into our classroom routines! One way to integrate the two would be to link Study Island to a Schoology assignment and have the students submit a screenshot of their assignment/practice results. Any other ideas to merge these two platforms?
2. Charging iPads-Occasionally iPads will not recognize a charger when it has been plugged in. Usually, this is because the iPad has not been restarted recently. To fix this, hard reset the iPad by holding the Home and Power buttons until the screen turns black and the white apple appears. 3. EdPuzzle-This is a wonderful app that you can use to integrate questions into any video! Jeni Teramoto has used this site to mashup the STEMScopes video guide with the actual video. Christine O'Brien has added questions to her own flipped videos for stronger student participation and understanding. Take a tour of EdPuzzle here and decide if this is something that you can use in your classroom! |
