1. Student iPad Updates-You may have seen my posts on Schoology reminding students to update their iPads (actually, you may not have seen them on your laptop, but they do appear on the iPad app!) to 13.3.1. I will send out one more reminder on Friday and then will begin calling down students during Advisory to update their iPads in my office. I will have Chris & Justin here to help and we will email you and the student the day before to come down to my office. If the timing does not work well for you, that's fine! Just let us know and we can call them down another day. Our goal is to have every student updated for IAR/ISA testing, so we have plenty of time. 2. Chrome-Did you know that if you right click on any tab you get several useful options? One of my favorites is "Close Tabs to the Right." This is great for everyday organization! 3. Highlight Image Assessment Questions-The highlight image question type in Schoology assessments is one of the neatest (and probably underutilized) one that I've seen! Students are able to draw on any picture that is uploaded like a blank page for a whiteboard, text for highlighting, diagrams for showing understanding, etc. The teacher view shows the question being solved and then freezes on the final answer. While this question type will not automatically grade for you, it can be very useful for questions that otherwise would not fit well in the other question formats. 4. Schoology-It looks like Schoology is experiencing some disruption again today. If you are ever wondering if Schoology is experiencing issues, check their status dashboard! Unfortunately, there isn't anything we can do besides wait until Schoology has fixed the issue. Additionally, if students get logged out of their Schoology accounts, please do not send them down to my office. They have the directions in their Student Tech Ticket app on their iPad! They need to tap on the Tech Ticket webclip > choose "I need login help" > choose "Schoology" and then they will be given text (and picture) directions for logging in!

1. Reflector-Reflector is currently not working between WiFis, meaning that students are not able to reflect to teacher laptops without being on the same WiFi. The students are on d23stu1:1. If you would like this WiFi added to your laptop, please put in a tech ticket (please also include your available times). If your entire team is interested in having that WiFi added, please ask your team facilitator to coordinate with Chris Reglis to come to a team meeting.
2. Schoology Presentation-On Friday, I will be presenting at a Schoology conference in Aurora. This same presentation will also be given at IDEAcon (formerly ICE) in February. I wanted to share it with you as some of the information may be helpful! 3. BreakoutEDU-Are you looking to break up the monotony of winter? If so, BreakoutEDU may be what you are looking for! BreakoutEDU has a ton of already made physical and digital games for every content! You also have your very own TIS who happens to enjoy creating breakouts for your classes :] If the idea of doing an entire breakout stresses you out, what about putting together a one clue breakout and using it as a bell ringer? We can customize any breakout to fit the goals of your class! Login information has been shared previously for our school account, but if you need it again, please email me. 1. Mojave & iPad OS 13 Features-With the updates to your laptops and iPads come new features! Here is a quick presentation that I made to highlight some of my favorites. A reminder that students will be able to update their iPads on Friday and should do so at home. 2. Grading Periods in Schoology-With the changes before the break please make sure that you are choosing Trimester 2 and not Quarter 2 (if you have a trimester class) when creating assignments and assessments. I am working with Schoology to see if we can make the correct quarter or trimester the default terms. I’ll keep you posted! 3. Sharing Google Slides in Present Mode-You may have noticed that one of the ways the 12 Days of Visible Learning was shared was in the presentation mode. This mode is a great way to share interactive slides with your class because it encourages clicking on links to navigate around instead of clicking through the thumbnails on the side. To get the correct share link, make sure that you have updated the share settings to match your activity. Then delete the end of the URL, starting at "Edit." Once you have deleted the end of the URL, add "present."
1. New Spheros-We received a new set of 12 Spheros, bringing our total to 24 Spheros and 12 Ollies! These devices are available for coding activities, class rewards, Advisory units, vocab practice, and more! Reach out if you are interested in using them! 2. View Tabs in Sheets-If you want to switch to a specific tab on Google Sheets, but don't want to hit the arrows 80 times, click on the 4 bars in the bottom left-hand corner. This will open a list of the tabs and from here you can click on the one you would like to go to. 3. Schoology Champions Program-If you're interested in learning more about Schoology, features, upcoming tools, and joining an online community of like-minded teachers, then check out the Schoology Champions Program. It is free to join and you earn prizes for completing challenges that are directed towards deepening your understanding of the platform and interacting with other teachers. Through a version of this program (I am a member of the Schoology Ambassador Program), I have earned a shirt, socks, and lanyard! It's also one of my sources to gather these wonderful tech tips!
1. Schoology Notepad-Schoology released another new feature this summer that allows students to use a notepad in their assessments. This notepad gives the students space to draft out thoughts, lists, etc. while taking a test. Use this help guide to learn more! 2. Gmail-I found out on accident the other day that you can drag and drop emails in Gmail! I thought it was a pretty neat find! 3. iPadOS, Catalina, & iOS13-Apple will be releasing the newest operating system updates for iPhones, Macs, and iPads soon. iOS13 for iPhones will be released on Thursday (9/19), iPadOS for iPads will be released on 9/30, and Catalina for Macs will be released in October. We ask that you do not update your iPad or Mac at this time. Please also talk to your students and let them know that we are not updating the iPadOS yet. I will put an announcement on Schoology closer to the release date to remind them as well.
