1. Keyboard Shortcuts-Keyboard shortcuts are quick ways to complete tasks straight from your keyboard. On Macs, these shortcuts typically use the Command button. These shortcuts really do help save you time! I'll be including one or two in all future Tech Tips, but here are a few to get us started and here is a more comprehensive list.
Quit: Command + Q Copy: Command + C Cut: Command + X Paste: Command + V To keep Cut and Paste straight, we would tell our elementary students that the X looks like a pair of open scissors and the V looks like an upside down glue bottle :] 2. Open Last Tabs-Have you ever accidentally closed a Chrome window full of tabs? If so, reopen Chrome and go to 'History' and choose # tabs. Here, you can see the tabs that were open and restore them all. 3. Add an Audio/Video Comment to a Student Submission-You can add audio/video comments to student submissions straight within Schoology. This could save you time, especially when you want to give specific and individualized feedback on an assignment!

1. Pinning Tabs in Chrome-I have several tabs that I keep open all day, every day. If you have any of those, try pinning your tabs! These tabs will appear anytime you open Chrome for the first time (they do not appear in new windows), so you don't have to go and open them all! Open the websites you'd like to pin and right click on their tab and choose 'Pin tab.' If you decide you don't want the page pinned anymore, right click and choose 'Unpin tab.' Thanks to Amy Banas (TIS at Ike & Ross) for showing me this tip! 2. Quick Add Events in Google Calendar-You can add events quickly in Calendar by clicking on the day of the event, then typing the subject, followed by the time frame. 3. Google Expeditions-Google Expeditions is a virtual reality application that takes students on virtual field trips! I spoke about Expeditions at each of the grade level meetings, but if I missed you, feel free to stop by my office to find out more! I found this complete list of all of the Expedition locations. Take a look and see if there's anything that might work for your classroom!
1. Splitting PDFs-Have you ever wanted to separate pages from a PDF into individual documents? Have you ever wanted to scan a batch of papers at the copier, but send them as individual documents? Here's how:
Within the PDF on your computer:
2. Team Drives-Steve, Chris, and I will be working on moving our 'Mac' GoogleDocs to a Team Drive for everyone to access tomorrow. Everyone will still have access to these documents, but they may be moved to a different spot. If I have not had the opportunity to talk to you about this change, feel free to stop by my office! 3. Staff Technology Survey-Here is a link to a GoogleForm survey reflecting on technology this year. Specifically, as the TLT committee looks to plan collection for this year and rollout for next year, your feedback will be extremely valuable! Please take 5 minutes over the next week to fill out this survey! I hope you're having a wonderful week! You may have noticed that some of your co-workers have started to receive new laptops (hooray!). We are rolling out these laptops in chunks, starting with the oldest and most problem-prone devices. Feel free to check with your TLT representatives or me if you'd like a more detailed timeline. As always, if you are experiencing issues with your device, please put in a ticket so that it can be logged and fixed! Here is the link to the helpdesk. One thing to know about the new MacBook Airs is that they are extremely light and compact (hooray, again!), but with this size comes a smaller hard drive. This means we will need to be working towards using GoogleDrive as our main storage space. Here is an Infographic I made using Piktochart.com on how to maintain a happy and healthy computer! This information is applicable to everyone and I hope you find it helpful! You may need to download the attachment to be able to see it all. |
