1. ICE-ICE is happening this week! Follow along on Twitter by searching #ICE19. You can also find the awesome presentations on the ICE Symbaloo Dashboard. The presenters will continue to add to the dashboard throughout the week, so mark it and come back to it! 2. Schoology Help Center-Schoology just released a new feature for teachers and parents (on a computer only) that provides help articles depending on the section that you are in. For example, when you are in the Gradebook section, this tool will provide helpful articles on how to use the Gradebook features. Make sure to take a look! 3. Google Drive Search-Google has also released its new search features within Google Drive. When you click on the search bar, new options will appear to help with your search. It includes suggested searches, top collaborators, and quick access icons for the type of file you may be searching for. Below is what this new feature looks like!

1. Google Form Default Settings-You can now set default settings for your Google Forms. These settings will be applied to all new forms and can be changed as needed. For example, I collect email addresses with most of my forms (unless they are anonymous surveys), so it makes sense to set 'collect email addresses' as my default and change it when I want to. To change these settings, open a form, go to the three dots in the top right-hand corner and click 'Preferences.' 2. Comment on PDFs in Google Drive-Google Drive has just released the ability to add comments to non-Google documents like PDFs and photos. To do this, open the document in Drive and click on the comment icon in the top right-hand corner. 3. More Efficient Grading in Schoology-After reviewing student work and deciding on which feedback to provide, there is a faster way of inputting grades and comments than going one by one. If you click on the 'Edit Grades' icon within an assignment, it will take you to a screen that has all of the students listed with their scores and comments available for editing. I personally prefer having this screen open on my laptop and have the student submissions open on my iPad.
1. Google Calendar-Hopefully you have noticed that your Google Calendar has been updated to the new version. Here is a helpful article that lays out some of the biggest changes. One of my favorite features is the Event Details section. Here you can add documents/spreadsheets/etc. or type in your to-do list. This is perfect for team or committee meetings that require everyone to be on the same document while saving everyone the effort of finding said document. To add an attachment, click the 'pencil' icon on the event to edit it then scroll down to the large text box and click on the attachment icon. 2. Google Drive Shared with Me-Google Drive has reorganized it's Shared with me section, which is helpful since it has always been the organizational problem child. One big change is that they have started adding documents that have recently been shared via link. In the past, if a co-worker shared a document in an email, then you'd have the most success searching your inbox for that email. Now you can go to your Shared with me and find it there. Below is an example using our Staff Meeting Agenda from the Week in Review email. 3. Schoology Profile Pictures-Schoology announced that they will be replacing blank profile pictures with one of their own design by the end of the week. They also announced that you can choose from one of their 8 geometric pictures to be your profile picture. If you have ever dreamed about being represented by elbow macaroni or a lost game of Snake, then here is your chance!
1. Turn off High Sierra Notifications-We are not ready to update to High Sierra, so to turn off the persistent notifications, follow these steps!
2. PDF to Google Doc-Google Drive can convert PDFs to editable Google Docs for you! Formatting isn't always perfect, but it sure beats having to retype a document! To do this, right-click on the PDF, click 'Open with' and choose 'Google Docs.' 3. Google Drive Sharing-Check out the following tip on how to quickly view who has access to your shared folders! 1. Google Drive Quick Access-Google just released a feature for Google Drive on the iPad called Quick Access. This is the bar of documents that has appeared at the top of the 'My Drive' section. Google chooses these documents based on when you last opened them and how often you view them. I would guess that Google will be expanding this feature to the desktop version of Drive in the future. 2. Schoology Rubrics-Schoology Rubrics are a wonderful and easy way to assess students on their work. Check out this article by Schoology for 5 new ways to use rubrics! One of my favorites is using rubrics for participation. This could be especially useful for our Exploratory classes who use weekly points! 3. Drive Keyboard Commands-You can search for Keyboard Shortcuts in Drive by clicking on the gear symbol in the top right-hand corner and then clicking 'Keyboard Shortcuts.' This gives you a whole list of commands that are made just for Google Drive. Keyboard Tip: This week's Keyboard Tip comes from #3 above! When you are in Drive, tap the / key to immediately send your cursor to the search bar! So handy! |
